How to Get Rid of Cavities

Tooth cavities or tooth decay are small holes on the hard surface of the tooth. They are caused by bacteria on the surface of teeth that produce acid from sugar. The most common culprit is a bacteria called Streptococcus mutans.
Bacteria from mucous membranes called plaques. The acid in dental plaque removes minerals from tooth enamel (demineralizes minerals) the coating of teeth is mainly made of calcium and phosphate. This corrosion can form small holes in the enamel. Once the acid damage spreads into the dentin layer below the enamel, a cavity is formed.
1. Sugar-free gum
Clinical trials have shown that chewing sugarless gum after meals help mineralize tooth enamel. Chewing gum containing xylitol has been extensively studied due to its ability to stimulate saliva flow, increase the pH of dental plaque, and reduce Streptococcus mutans, but long-term research is needed.
Sugar-free chewing gum containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) can reduce Streptococcus mutans more than chewing gum containing xylitol. These types of gums are easily available in stores.
2. Vitamin D
Vitamin D is important to help absorb calcium and phosphate from the food you eat. You can get vitamin D from dairy products such as milk and yogurt. Sun is also a source of vitamin D. In modern times it is quite essential to look after the vitamins need of your body.
3. Brush with fluoride toothpaste
Fluoride plays an important role in preventing tooth decay and remineralizing minerals. There are many types of research that have shown that regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste can prevent tooth decay.
Most research is conducted on children or adolescents, so adults and the elderly need more research.
4. Cut out sugary foods
This is a tooth decay cure that no one likes to hear. Don’t eat too much sugar. It is generally recommended that you should reduce your daily sugar intake to less than 10% of your total calorie intake.
If you want to eat sugar, please try not to eat sugary food all day long. Since one sugar is gone your tooth can remineralize. However, if you keep eating sugar, your teeth will no longer be mineralized.
5. Oil pulling
Oil extraction is an ancient practice that involves scrubbing your mouth with oil such as sesame or coconut for about 20 minutes, then spit it out. There is no evidence for the claim that sucking oil from the body “removes toxins.” However, a small, three-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial showed that oil absorption with sesame oil can reduce dental plaque, gingivitis, and reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth, just as effective as chlorhexidine mouthwash. Larger studies are needed to confirm these effects.
6. Licorice root
At least one study has shown that extracts from the Chinese licorice plant (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) can resist the bacteria that cause tooth cavities.
A researcher took it to a new level and created licorice lollipops to help prevent tooth decay. A pilot study using licorice extracts from trusted sources in lollipops showed that they effectively reduced. Streptococcus mutans in the mouth and prevent tooth decay. Need for larger and longer-term research.
